2024 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES DCT

Forge your own trail

Engineered for the bold, the Honda Africa Twin is a fusion of cutting-edge technology and rugged reliability. So swing a leg over and experience unmatched performance, whether navigating city streets or conquering untamed trails – your adventure awaits.

Performance

1083cc twin-cylinder engine

These adventure bikes feature a narrow parallel-twin engine that delivers torque smoothly throughout the RPM range, making them great for both city riding and highway cruising.

Parallel-twin engine layout

The bike's front wheel can tuck in closer to the engine thanks to the parallel-twin engine layout. This shortens the wheelbase, making the bike more agile on and off the road.

Twin intakes

It utilizes a unique twin air intake system featuring two vertical filtration elements. This results in excellent engine performance, even during extensive operation in dusty conditions.

10.5:1 compression ratio

For the 2024 model, they have increased the compression ratio to 10.5:1 and changed the valve timing to produce a 7% increase in horsepower and torque, especially in the midrange, which most adventure riders prefer.

Larger exhaust pipes

This year, we've increased the size of the muffler-exit pipes on both models to enhance performance and sound quality.

Unicam® engine design

Honda's Unicam® engine design, with its compact cylinder-head layout, allows for optimal engine placement and superior performance.

Compact dual-catalyzer exhaust

Using the same muffler-valve technology as our CBR1000RR Superbike, the exhaust silencer helps lower emissions while highlighting rideability and power output.

270-degree-phase crank

Most twins use a 180-degree crank. Phasing this bike at 270 degrees gives you a unique power delivery that’s easy to modulate, especially in terrain where traction is challenging.

Dry-sump engine

A dry-sump engine design is the only option for a big adventure bike. The more compact sump increases ground clearance and eliminates the vulnerability of a conventional wet sump.

Handling

Long-travel front suspension

The inverted Showa fork on the standard model is fully adjustable with huge 45mm tubes and 8.0 inches of travel—the most in the 1000cc off-road class. The Adventure Sports models get 7.3 inches of front travel to match the 19-inch front-wheel fitment.

Selectable ABS

These bikes come with three Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) modes: on-road, off-road, and a mode that turns off the rear ABS system for dirt riding.

Cornering ABS

They come standard with an Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) integrated with a 6-axis IMU. The system compensates accordingly when the user is leaned over.

Low center of gravity

By placing heavy components like the battery near the bike's center of gravity and using a compact engine, we've created a superior platform for excellent handling.

Electronically controlled suspension

The Adventure Sports ES and Adventure Sports ES DCT are equipped with SHOWA EERA® suspension, allowing you to choose five suspension damper settings on the fly.

Semi-double-cradle frame

The semi-double-cradle steel frame layout has been proven in countless Honda dirt bikes. In principle, it’s similar to the design used on our Rally factory Dakar race bike - a machine designed to perform in challenging conditions.

Steel frame

This ADV bike features a frame almost 4 lbs lighter than its predecessor, with a stiffer steering head for improved handling.

Four-piston calipers

They feature twin four-piston brake calipers up front for powerful braking performance. The radial-mount design also makes them stiffer, which increases brake feel and control.

Refined swingarm

The swingarm is lightweight and sturdy, thanks to the technology developed for our CRF450R motocrosser.

Hollow steel axles

Large-diameter hollow steel axles are used both in the front and rear. They are extremely strong, durable, and lightweight, a combination that describes almost everything about this bike.

Rear suspension

It features a fully adjustable rising-rate Pro-Link® rear suspension and offers 8.7 inches of rear-wheel travel. Our Adventure Sports models feature electronic preload adjustment with 7.9 inches of travel.

Electronic preload adjustment

Adjusting the preload on your shock is effortless, with four settings tailored to your needs. There is no need to struggle with hard-to-reach collars - all adjustments are made electronically.

Tires and wheels

All Africa Twin models have wire-spoked wheels. The standard models feature 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels for better performance off-road, while the Adventure Sports models have more road-focused 19-inch front wheels and wider rims.

Tubeless tires

Tubeless tires are now standard on all of our Africa Twin models, providing a cooler-running tire and a wide selection of adventure bike rubber. Flat tire repairs are also much easier.

Engineering

Ride modes

The manual transmission and DCT models offer six riding modes: Tour, Urban, Gravel, Off-Road, User 1, and User 2. The last two let you customize the system to your individual preference.

Six-speed automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission

The Africa Twin DCT and Adventure Sports ES DCT feature a strong, steel-gear transmission that can be operated with paddle shifters manually or automatically. It's the future of motorcycle transmissions.

Six-speed manual transmission

The Africa Twin and Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES models have a conventional six-speed manual gearbox with a handlebar-mounted clutch lever. This design is proven tough and slightly lighter.

Water pump

The water pump is behind the cover, with no fragile hoses, and driven by a balancer shaft. One less worry.

Throttle-by-wire

Our throttle-by-wire system expands versatility with seven levels of Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) and four power delivery modes: Tour, Urban, Gravel, and a fourth that's user-programmable.

Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)

Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) lets you customize power delivery to match conditions with seven different settings for various terrains.

Wheelie control

Working with Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), front and rear wheel-speed sensors allow you to choose from three levels of wheelie control, with an available "off" position for manual control.

G switch

This special feature comes standard on all Africa Twin DCT models. It helps improve control when riding off-road by reducing clutch slip during throttle operation—an essential component for dirt riding.

Lightweight lithium-ion battery

Conventional batteries are heavy, so we used a lightweight lithium-ion battery that holds a charge four times longer and has a longer shelf life.

Style

Rally-type fairing

Good fairings are key for real riders. Hours were spent perfecting them on both AT models to balance wind protection and off-road agility. Our 2024 Adventure Sports models have a new cowl shape for even better protection and a new windscreen shape to reduce buffeting.

Comfort and Convenience

Large fuel tanks

Our Africa Twin and Africa Twin DCT feature 18.8-liter (5.0-gallon) fuel tanks, while our two Adventure Sports ES models increase that capacity to 24.8-liter (6.6 gallons), enough for super-sized adventures.

Optional aluminum luggage

Our three-piece hard luggage set is a must-have accessory for any traveler. These bags are equipped with weather-resistant lining, and the largest bag can even accommodate a full-face helmet.

Tall handlebar

Fitting a taller handlebar opens up the cockpit, working with the seat and windscreen for a comfortable rider's triangle during long rides.

Tapered aluminum handlebar

Our aluminum handlebars are lighter and more flexible than steel units. They are designed to taper from a thin diameter under your grips to a thicker section at the top, offering optimal flex and rigidity.

Narrow seat

We took extra care to ensure the seat was narrower, making it easier to maneuver the bike and place a foot on the ground at stoplights or parking lots. This year, the Adventure Sports models feature a new seat with a new shape for more comfort during long rides.

Narrow subframe

The aluminum subframe is removable for servicing and repairs. Width has been reduced by 40mm for a narrower and more agile feel in challenging terrain.

Biaxial counterbalancer

Honda's engineers cancel out engine vibrations using counterbalancing elements on two axes, resulting in a smooth, vibration-free ride.

Athletic riding position

Adventure riding demands agile movement on a narrow bike. The peg-bar-seat triangle lets you adjust your position for better handling on tough trails.

Full accessory lineup

You can equip your new CRF1100L with a full range of Honda accessories. These include a centerstand, quick-shifter, top and side boxes, rally seats, footpegs, and much more.

Technology

Cruise control

All models are equipped with cruise control for long-distance touring, similar to our Gold Wings.

TFT touchscreen display

A 6.5-inch LCD touch-panel display shows a multitude of information, and you can choose from three displays depending on your needs.

Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™

Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ seamlessly integrate into your Android or iPhone, allowing easy access to maps, music, and other services.
